Vladimirs Strazdins graduated from Riga Medical Institute in 1977 (now called Riga Stradins University). He served for two years as an Army Medical Officer and started to work in University Hospital for Children in Riga in 1983. In 1992, he was appointed as Head of Nephrology at the same hospital and held this position till 2009. He is a member of European Pediatric Dialysis Working Group under ESPN from 2004 till 2012, with published European Guidelines on Pediatric Dialysis. He is recently retired, but still working part-time in Hemodialysis Unit at MS Gailezers and provides second-opinion to the consulting patients. He currently focuses on antimicrobial resistence issues and its implications on urinary tract infections.

Prof. Petra Reinke is Nephrologist / Clinical Scientist - scientific topics: transplantation medicine, development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in transplantation. She is Project coordinator for the EU founded FP7 consortium “BIO-DrIM”, was Steering committee member / work-package leader of the EU founded FP7 consortium “ONE- Study”, Steering committee member / work-package leader of the EU founded FP6 consortium “RISET”, Co-PI for a project founded by the Immune Tolerance Network, Co-Investigator ROTF grant. She is Head of the “Kidney Transplant Outpatient Clinic”; Head of research area “immune system”, Head of the GMP-Facility, Steering Committee Member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies, of the DFG-sponsored Berlin-Brandenburg School for Regenerative Therapies, of the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) Stem Cell Center. She published more than 300 articles.

Transplantation medicine

Thomas Ryzlewicz has completed his PhD from Free University in Berlin (West). He started dialysis treatment in 1974. In between 2 years in the Physiologic Institute (Berlin-West, theme acid-base status). In1978, he published two papers in Kidney International (co-working with H Hampl) concerning the cardio-vascular behavior during dialysis monitored by left-heart catheter. In 1978, he worked on the development of a rough protoype for bicarbonate dialysis in order to study the amount of acidification. In 1985, he was a Consultant at the Nephrologic Clinic in Regensburg (Bavaria, Germany). He was a Senior Consultant in 1992 (dialysis centre in Ebersberg, near Munich, Germany). He is responsible for handling of many prototypes of dialysis supply systems, e.g., prototypes of hemofiltration (1978) and of the real (2-step) online-hemofiltration (1983-85). He worked on the development of an own bloodline with minimal contact between blood & air in order to reduce the sheer-stress in single fibre capillary (big EPO dosage reduction, product “Oxyless-Line”) which obtained EU patent, US patent, PEMA audit from London, and was published by Ian Macdougal (King’s College, London)

Käthe B Meyer completed her Master’s and is currently completing her PhD at Oslo University. She is a Transplant Coordinator at Oslo University Hospital. She has been a member of several international committees such as the Executive Committee of the Board of Transplant Coordinators within the division of Transplantation of the UEMS, Chair of Nordic Transplant Coordinator Group and scientific committee member at EDTCO congresses. She has published 8 articles in reputed journals.

And also he had orations in Khullar Oration of Indian Society of Nephrology 2005, Arogya Kalyan Nyas Oration of Peritoneal Dialysis Society of Nephrology 2012 and Georgi Abraham Oration of Peritoneal Dialysis Society of India 2016. He had 192 articles in indexed journals & 30 book chapters. And also he had a achievement in the CAPD programme at SGPGIMS in 1993 which is the largest centre for CAPD in South Asia.

He worked as Nephrologist University Hospital, Edmonton Canada during l968-1976. Has been living in Israel and practicing nephrology since 1976 in Tel Hashomer and Beilinson and Tel Aviv Medical Center. Bruce Hendry is President of the UK Renal Association and Emeritus Professor of Renal Medicine at King's College London. He graduated in medicine from the University of Oxford and received his PhD in Biophysics from the University of Cambridge. His major research interests are in the cell and molecular biology of progressive renal fibrosis and in the design of novel therapeutic approaches. His current work is focused on the study of new approaches to the problem of aberrant renal cell proliferation leading to fibrosis; this work includes the use of antisense and small molecule strategies. Recent work has examined the role of antisense as therapy in renal fibrosis and ADPKD and the targeting of T-type calcium channels in glomerular disease. He has clinical research interests in diabetic nephropathy, HIV and the kidney and in polycystic kidney disease

She is the Chief of Service (Department of Medicine) and Chief of Nephrologist at University of Hong Kong – Shenzhen Hospital, Guangdong, China. She is also the Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong. She was a NHS Consultant Physician and Nephrologist in Sunderland Royal Hospital and then Royal Liverpool University Hospital before she returned to Hong Kong in 2012
